WELCOME FALL! Wow - it is hard to believe that we have been in school for a few weeks already! The children have really fallen into our routine and are doing a great job! We are off to a wonderful start to our school year! Thank you for all of your help and support!
We began our week with a visit from Mrs. Bonacquist! Mrs. Bonacquist
talked with the children about the different things that her job entails and
what her main goal of the school is (to keep everyone safe). She then
read a story called It's Okay to be Different by Todd Parr to
the children. It is a wonderful story celebrating everyone, no matter who
you are, what you look like, or what your family is like. Lastly, Mrs.
Bonacquist gave each of the children an awesome bag with the school's motto, Always Our Best, on it as well as the 75th Anniversary insignia! These bags are coming home today with the children. The children thought it was such a treat to have
our principal with us!
In
the area of Math we have continued concentrating on calendar math - counting by 1's,
tally marks, vocabulary - more, less, equal, patterning; sorting/classifying to
one and two attributes; shapes; positional words; #'s 1-5. We also began working on one to one correspondence while counting individual objects.
We finished our theme of Apples this week.
We tasted McIntosh, Granny Smith, and Golden Delicious apples and created
a 'favorite' apple graph. Many of the children had the same favorite! Be sure to ask your child about this! We read non-fiction books about apples and discussed the journey that an apple takes from the orchard to your table. We have also been reading several different apple poems. We glued one of them in our poetry journals. A couple of the poems have come home today in your child's folder. Enjoy reading them with your child!
We are having fun in Language Arts learning about
'beats' in a word, beginning sounds, noticing details in illustrations, and
name games - identifying letters in our/each other's names. We also have
also been reading many different books with rhyming patterns and nursery rhyme
books. We completed a project that went with a Pete the Cat story and a project that went with the book Sheep in a Jeep. The children are having a fun time rhyming words
using all different patterns!

We made SSSSlithering SSSnakes to review the letter Ss! |
We had a wonderful time celebrating our first warm fuzzy party!
The children looked terrific in their pajamas! Don't be fooled by
the picture below - they are only pretending to be taking a snooze! They are
very alert in class, believe me! We have already starting putting warm
fuzzies in the jar to work toward our next party!
Conversation Starters:
- Where is the star found on/in an apple?
- Which kind of apple did our class like the most? (It was a tie between Granny Smith and McIntosh!)
- What are some signs that Fall has arrived?
How You Can Help:
- Encourage your child to practice writing their first name beginning with an uppercase letter and all of the rest lowercase.
- Help your child to complete the Old Mother Hubbard rhyming paper and have them return it on Monday.
- Look for patterns in and around your home.
- Help your child to find a sign of Fall to bring in.
- We continue to have several books circulating - 2 bus safety books and our family book. Please read these with your child when they bring them home and return them the next day. We also have Dumbo, our class mascot. Our sharing bag will begin circulating on Monday. Be sure to see the letter about it in your child's folder today.
- Have fun reading/singing the apple poems with your child that came home in their folder today.
- Please remember to send your child's folder to school with them EVERYDAY! Thank you!
