June 2

Welcome June!  It is hard to believe that we are in our last month of school!  We have had a fantastic year, but there is still lots to do!

The lines went home for our Kindergarten ABC play this week and I am amazed at how many children already know ALL of their lines!  Thank you, thank you , thank you for practicing them so quickly!  Everyone is excited for our production, please make sure that you see the formal invitation that your child brought home yesterday!

We have had a very busy week.  In math we continued learning about solid shapes and had fun doing an experiment to see if each shape could slide, roll or stack.  The children came up with some very creative ways to stack each shape, although their ideas didn't always work!  We practiced our # writing as we made our June calendar this week.  I always marvel at how quickly, correctly, and neatly the children are able to write their #'s now as opposed to just a few months ago.  They are doing awesome!  While making our calendar we learned about symmetry and created beautiful butterflies to put on the top of it.  Each one was perfectly symmetrical!

We are finishing up our persuasive unit of writing in the next couple of weeks.  Our final project is to write a letter to Mrs. Bonacquist to ask for a class pet.  Turtles, frogs, cats, dogs, bunnies and hamsters are a few ideas that have been mentioned.  This week we wrote letters to our parents trying to persuade them to give each of the children something special.  Be prepared, the letters will come home soon!  We will write Mrs. Bonacquist our final letters next week and see what she says! I have to admit, their power of persuasion has gotten very good!

We have been learning all about frogs this week.  Each child is in the process of writing a non-fiction book on these interesting creatures.  The books will be on display in our classroom after the play.  You are welcome to take it home with you when you come on that day.

Your children have green thumbs!  Some of their plants have gotten so tall that we have had to send them home already!  Others are still coming along.  I hope that you have someplace to plant these wonderful plants, everyone is so excited!

Conversation Starters:
  • Do frogs live only in the North America?  (no, they live on every continent except Antartica)
  •  Are frogs reptiles?  (no, they are amphibians)
  • Do frogs hibernate?  (yes, they burrow down in the mud)
